Hello guys! EDIT* Here are the steps...

Ok for cutting off the front grip here's what you'll need.

1. A steady hand.
2. A Dremel Rotary Tool
3. A bench grinder, or a sander of some sort.

Steps
1. Remove the bolts, and open up the gun.
2. All internals must be removed.
3. Take one half of the reciever, and cut into it using the dremel. Cut across so the cut is lined up with the flat bottom of the reciever.
4. Repeat step 3 for the other half.
5. Put the reciever halfs back together, Dont put internals back in yet. And take it to the bench grinder or a sander. (this is not mandatory, just smoothes the cut out.
6. Take the reciever aparp again, oil up internals, (if needed) and put it all back together. Your Done!

If you are going to add a Weaver rail like I am, you will also need a tapping kit.

FINAL UPDATE!

Well I couldnt find a decent tapping kit, so I JB Welded the rail directly to one half of the body. It isn't as nice, but it works perfectly.

Oi this was the worst part on my project 98.

I used a hack saw to cut off the front grip. Then an orbital sander to get it down and good as I could. The hard part will be getting in between the tabs that hold the feeder.

I doubt you want to do this, but I spent about 3 hours at the fore grip with a rat tail file. Very painstaking and difficult. But I got under those tabs just fine.

that's a nice foregrip Drewed. What did you use? I planned on screwing a weaver rail onto the bottom and then attaching a bipod when i wanted, a vertical grip when i wanted, or one of these when I wanted to attach a horizontal grip. Unfortunatly i dont know how long these are and the weaver I'm placing where the grip used to be will probably only be 4 1/2" long if that.

You can make short work of the foregrip if you have a dremel tool and some cutting discs. Otherwise, DRD's way is best.

And the weaver rail will be a tough job, unless you can think up a way to detach it whenever you want to take apart your marker.

I would just unscrew it. Just like the bottom of the gripframe, where the hole to attach the asa is 1/2 on each side of the reciever halfs. It will be much like that just on the front of the gun.

I will post pics as I go along. But it wont be for a little bit.

You have 3 choices of tools in removing the Foregrip of a 98.

1. Dremel Rotary Tool wit a package of Metal Cutting Discs

2. Hacksaw

3. Milling Machine

If you have or have access to a Milling Machine, you will be able to remove the Foregrip within 5 minutes and get a cleaner cut.

If you dont have access to a Milling Machine, your best bet is to use a Dremel wit several Metal Cutting Discs, a package of Sanding Drums and Fine Toothed Steel File for the Finishing Touches.

If you dont have neither of the Tools I stated above, a Hacksaw will do the job also but, it would require alot of time to complete the job.
