Alright, I just got a new A5, and am going to get a new barrel as my first upgrade. I have pretty much narrowed down my search to a J&J ceramic or a Lapco Bigshot. I just wondered which one is better, and what length. Also, if you think neither is good feel free to suggest a different one!

I personally would suggest the Lapco barrel. Lapco has outstanding quality. The quality of the bore on their barrels is just flawless, and they have a long standing reputation for that perfection.

J&J has decent barrels for the price. However, they're quality has been slipping lately. They also aren't precise enough in their single piece barrels to even supply a specific bore size which shows something about the tolerances. Unlike Lapco which produces their barrels in small quantities, J&J mass produces theirs and theres a drop in quality.

Palmer's brass barrels are another barrel to consider. Each one is custom made and very high quality.

Couldn't agree with Piller more- I have an older J&J, and they have slipped a bit in the quality dep't. while Lapco and Palmer's produce some of the best engineered and made stuff out there. CP make a pretty good barrel for the dollar, and there are a few other decent values out there, but if you have the extra cash to spend, Lapco makes a great product.

If you want to use an Apex, I'd go with the Apex ready Lapco bigshot. If you don't care to use an Apex, then go with either a Lapco BigShot or a Palmers brass. As for length, I prefer 14", but it's all up to you.

Most will recommend either 12" or 14".

You could get a python compression kit. Works like a barrel kit without the high cost. All you do is screw the sleeve into your gun with the paintball size insert and then screw your stock barrel into the sleeve and you are good to go.

Wow, I'll need to look up the Python kit, thanks for the info. Does anyone else have an opinion on it? Has anyone even used it?

It will cost about $60 for a kit for the A5. It comes with four sleeves of different sizes. I've never used them but I know a few people who have and said they loved it and noticed a significant increase in accuracy and consistancy due to the ball to bore match and they were glad they didn't spend $100+ dollars some other barrel kit.

Hmm, interesting, the paint to bore match was my main concern with all of 'em. Thanks for the info dude, I will definitely check em out!
