An air source.
A loader of some sort.
A barrel.
And that's pretty much it. Seems like a sarcastic answer, yes? It's completely truthful. There's no such thing as a specific sniper gun in paintball. It's only important that the player is comfortable with the gun he or she is using, whether it be for sniping or otherwise.
When asked what gear is best for being a sniper, thirty different people are going to have thirty different answers. It doesn't matter what they're using, it only matters that they are comfortable with whatever it is.
I use the same gun(s) for sniping as I use for anything else, speedball included. They're set up so that they're comfortable for me.

Silencers are illegal without a special permit.
Scopes, as stated many times, often have too much magnifacion to do any real good. Red dots are basically the only way to go on paintball markers.

Good paint- more important than any type of barrel, barrel kit, or bore match is having quality paint
and an experienced shooter behind it- because nothing makes up for practice and experience

AS far as physical things, I'd say a decent barrel, a stabilizer/ HPA, and a quiet loader (Gravity is quieter than electric in most cases

...as players, there is a circle, and an expert has come full-circle. Basically, you start one place, get all into it, and eventually you settle down into a place you really love, where it is the love of the game that is most important. - I.K.E.

If I hear this one more time, I am GOING TO SCREAM!!! Aaaah!! The pure mention of Silencers and every CLASS A firearm expert comes out of hiding to state the fact that Silencers are illegal! ha ha ha ha!
anyway, back in the day, we used 'em in paintball all the time...those were great days! the thing is...a paintball silencer usually cut down on the distance of your shot drastically. If you up the reg for more air in your shots, the silencer wasn't has effective.
Popping someone at closer ranges with a silencer was a BLAST though! The look of surprise and wondering what hit 'em was great!!!

1- the user. the most advanced gps laser tracking heatseaking smart weapon is completely useless if you dont know how to turn the safty off.
2- the paint. dimples are the devil reincarnated as a bad shaped paintball. all the skill in the world doesnt do much good if the shot zings off.
3- the ball detent. paint flys best when its not rolling down the barrel, this little and often forgoten nub on your marker is possibly the one thing that if fails will screw up your game more than any other factor.
barrels, triggers, stocks, and grips are all nice things but not necessity. dont get me wrong they are all nice to upgrade and usually benificial but any stock setup with good paint should give repeatable consistancey. yes i repeated myself with two different words
i cant say that any loader will make or break a sniper style, if you plan to unload 200 shots on 3 guys then you probally should reconsider the tag 'sniper'
air sources could and most likely will be debated.
fact: comp air is more stable and less prone to outside variables (temp, sun, and rapid fire)
but co2 will give (without scientifically testing, analyzing, and nitpicking) the desired results without complaint.
like a loader you dont need state of the art for one or two shots in a second.

Regulator, camo, red dot
Having gone a few different ways with getting a marker to my liking over 3 years i can say a reg is worth the money and camo is very very helpful in an ambush. I know some try to say otherwise but I just don't know how many guys I've relayed recon and shot with polished aluminum barrel and unnatural colors on their mask such as red eyes on a guys lense and chrome dull spikes on his mask. I have lost count.
But it really is the man behind the marker it really is. If it wasn't for my position knowledge and gained experience and the shared knowledge of the experienced players I know I would not be the player I am today. No way, I wouldn't be half as good. In 3 short years I have become an experienced player clone. I may not know as much but I play just like all of my experienced friends and we work very well together.
