It seems that more and more the good people on this forum are diminishing while the idiots and jerks seem to be ever increasing. I remember when I first joined this forum. Everyone was considerate and kind. I remember when you could post something and you received nothing but replies that were either helpful, on topic, or funny. These days though those post seem to be in the minority, while post with rude humor, flames, and idiocy seem to be on the rise. Every topic I visit someone is posting something insulting or rude. If someone uses bad grammar they are attacked, if someone posts a repeat thread or if they ask something obvious then they are attacked, and if someone posts a topic about something they like then someone has to come in and say how much they hate what that person likes.

But to y'all it seems that you think you have a right to be a jerk to these people. You seem to think you have a license to act like idiots. You say they deserve to be flamed because they use bad grammar, repeat threads, or post something you don’t like or agree with. Once upon a time when someone posted something with bad grammar people would stay on topic, but they would also suggest politely that they try to use better grammar so the other members could benefit by being able to better understand them. Once upon a time we would post links to original threads and explain the use of the search button. And once upon a time we would calmly, rationally, and intelligently discuss our opinions.

You say, "No we are not flaming, we are just posting pics and stating our opinions." Those pics you post are not flames? Pics that say how much someone is an idiot, or how they have received "The worst grammar/spelling of the year award." And what about your "opinions?" It’s funny how some people have the "opinion" that whatever anyone likes is stupid, or how some people have the "opinion" that everybody with a problem is emo. Stop hiding behind the word opinion. Pics and opinions are not your license to flame. It’s ok to have an opinion. Its encouraged that you express it. But stop using the word as a shield so you can insult people.

It has become so bad that several forum members, good forum members, are leaving or thinking about leaving. And still you have to get the last word in. You have to call them emo, cry babies, or idiots. You have to compare them to a little kid crying because someone on the internet called him stupid. You think it’s a license to call someone a name, or to flame them because it’s the internet. You say, "It's just the web jeeze!" You think that words transferred through a digital line do not affect people. You think that because it’s the internet that people can’t be affected by what you say. Or you just don’t care because it’s the internet...who cares right?

How you act anywhere says something about you. Even if it’s the internet. Think about what you say about yourself when you’re a jerk or idiot, even online.

If you have bothered to read this far you may be thinking this is another, I’m leaving thread. But it’s not. I love this forum, because of the many good people who are still on it. I love being able to log on and still have an intelligent conversation with people. But it’s getting to the point where we can’t do that anymore because some people are ruining it. But I am not going to leave because of that, and I am not going to perpetuate a cycle that will only foster the growth of idiots and jerks.

Your license has been revoked. Grow up.

Wow, I hope that everyone reads this thread and takes it to heart. This really is the stuff that made our forum a good community in the past that we all remember and love.

Actually over the past few days I thought the forum had calmed down considerably. I can see where your coming from though, we should all try to be easier on each other. I doubt this forum would ever be as bad as PBN, but it defininetaly was on a similar path.

True t0ast, but why settle for being better then some, or even most? Those of us who are senior members should work towards making this forum ideal, and do what we can to make it so. We all know how to do it, it's just about actually being a good, positive member of the forum.

what we need is a revolution!!!! im sigging this as well. i think what we need to do is upon someone posting flamming or spam, we should just ignore it, if they dont get people PERTURBED off and into an argument, it just becomes borring and eventually they will just shut up and go back to PBN.

That's true, those of us who are members can't prevent people from being jerks. We can however, be better posters and influence others to do the same. If people cross the line then that's why we have moderators and administrators, to help sift out the characters who refuse to keep this an enjoyable environment to be. Because face it, that's the only reason to be a member here, is to enjoy the experience every day that you come in and post.

-

You don't have to try to be a robo-cop and come in every day with your finger twitching on the report button, just try to help remind everyone to be better posters and I promise the forum experience here will improve greatly.
